Discipline

I got pulled over the other day because my annual inspection sticker had expired. I had just dropped off my son James at a birthday party, so it was just me and my 2.5 year old daughter, Emma. After the officer got my license and registration, he then went back to the car. At this point, Emma asked me "What's going on daddy?" I said, "Daddy's getting in trouble, I'll probably get a ticket." Emma then replied, "Can I have a ticket too?" To which I replied, "I don't think you want a ticket." She then said, "Is he going to get the wooden spoon?" I only wish I could have gotten off with a spanking. ;-)

What's an annual inspection sticker?

Every year, we have to get our car inspected for a whole bunch of things: brakes, lights, horn, gas cap, tires, muffler, etc. It's a pain, because there's always something wrong. I always drive old cars. I'm currently driving an 1984 Volvo. However, It's better than Atlanta where we ALSO had to get the car's emissions tested. At one point I had to sell my wife's perfectly functional Honda Accord (over 200K miles) because I couldn't get it to pass the inspection. A mechanic told me that there was too much "buildup" in the cylinders which was polluting the exhaust. The only way to fix that problem is to have the engine rebuilt or replaced. ;-)

That is hilarious!

So I take it your county does an emissions test? I'm lucky in that Spotsylvania Co. doesn't.

This is one feature of Virginia living that I'm not fond of. :-)
