No more fast food!

About 3 months ago, I gave up fast food. I love fast food. I haven't seen the movie Super Size Me yet, but I'm betting that I'll get hungry for a double cheeseburger and fries while watching the movie -- which isn't normal. In fact, my culinary inspired friends probably find this disturbing. I haven't lost a single pound since I first posted this goal (to lose 15 pounds), but the good news is that I haven't gained any either. I also feel better about myself since I haven't been eating such crappy food. I've been doing a lot more cycling and mountain biking since then, so my excuse is that I'm converting fat into muscle, heh.

I'm also reading Fast Food Nation which should also provide additional motivation to stay away from fast food. If you haven't read that book, I highly recommend it. It's a bit disturbing, but enlightening nonetheless.

The only caveat to my desire to lose 15 pounds is that I must lose the weight without removing good beer from my daily regimen. A man must have his priorities. ;-)

Fast Food Nation changed my life.

Super Size Me was entertaining, but in comparison is more about shock value than careful and applicable research. (If you eat fast food every single meal, every single day, it will be bad for you. Who does that in real life?!) You should rent the flick sometime just for kicks.

If you remove beer from your diet, I will weep.

I wish I could say I've given up fast food, but I work in Muskegon. :-/

I'm only a fifth of the way through FFN, and I already feel like I've learned a ton about the world view of our culture. Fascinating.

I don't think I'll quit beer anytime soon. I've been doing all grain brews with my friend Andy, and I just got a Cornelius Keg, and a CO2 regulator for my birthday. It's kegging time. ;-) I'll still bottle some though. In fact, I'm hoping to have something ready for the Gospelcom conference -- although you might not be there ... (will you?)

Jonathan: I've been to Muskegon twice, and I've only eaten at two restaurants, the bar at the Holiday Inn, and Hooters. Not fast food, but fast women (ask Smitty about his Calendar). ;-) There was a national bowling competition in town when I was staying at the Holiday Inn - that just about sums up Muskegon, doesn't it.

"What will you eat [in the new land called "america"]?"

"Game abounds, it's there for the taking!"

"But what will you drink?"

"Fresh clean water is everywhere!"

"Water?!?! Water is not fit for man to drink! A man needs beer, or ale!"

-- A good Louis L'Amour book.
